An Anti-Tank Mine was detonated by a vehicle in Urgon district of Paktika province killing and injuring 36 people only in one occasion.

The United Nations established an office in the name of Operation Salaam in New York, invited and trained 3000 people and equipped them with the locally-made tools with the expectation that they would return to their villages for a volunteer demining operations; none of them went in!

Demining trained personnel who were selected for the job did not return to work the next day. The people, who were trained, lost their interest because of risk involvement. Untiring efforts gave no positive result especially on the first team.
