Mine Risk EducationSince late 1997, to educate the local population living in the mine affected areas in which it was operating, ATC started to use volunteers from the demining teams who were ready and willing to teach the local people about the dangers posed by mines and UXO, in their free time, after finishing their demining work for the day. The logic behind this is to help reduce civilian casualties and to assist the UN Mine Awareness Program.
The ATC Mine Awareness Program is particularly cost effective as it involves people who have first-hand knowledge and experience of mine clearance and being an unpaid, voluntary activity, the actual capital expenditure involved is nil. Achievements to Date: Number of Trainees
